A five-day art exhibition titled “Insight” was held at Shala Neighbourhood Art Space at Gulshan. The exhibition was held in the memory artiste extraordinaire SM Sultan.
SM Sultan was well known for his decolonial style art, depicting exaggeratedly muscular Bengali peasants engaged in the activities of their everyday lives.
21 contemporary artists participated in this exhibition, displaying their own artworks inspired by the maestros works, introducing the art style to newer audiences.
The artworks were curated by Md Ziaul Hoque Raju. And works by Preema Nazia Andaleeb, AH Dhali Tomal, Sultanul Islam, Sourav Chowdhury, Rubina Nargis, Mahfuza Beauty, Sadia Khalid Reeti, Manashi Banik, SM Mizanur Rahman, Tanha Zafreen and Avijit Kanti Das were displayed at the exhibition.
The artists used various mediums to display their appreciation and inspirations. There were art pieces done with gorgeous acrylic paints, depicting the everyday beauties of life. From motherhood to marriages. There were clay sculptures displayed too.
Sabiha Nasrin painted SM Sultan with acrylic while Avijit Kanti Das sculpted a clay work.
Tareque Masud's documentary film on SM Sultan titled “Adam Surat” and Ziaul Hoque Raju's documentary film on metal craft titled “Fossil” will be screened at the venue on November 12. Probar Ripon from Sonar Bangla Circus will also perform at the closing.
The exhibition started on November 8 and will end on 12.
