“Dorod” actress Elina Shammi has accused director Anonno Mamum of unfair wages and exploitation in a scathing Facebook post.
In the post she talks about a director, who survived in the industry through “flattery”, “deceit” and “false promises”. She even proceeds to call him a “laughing stock”.
A commentator asks for his name but she only replied with, “He will release a movie soon, so I didn't tell his name, I don't want to damage the movie, but I will tell after the release of the movie.”
Netigens were quick to piece together the missing puzzle as Mamum himself responded on social media saying “An incompetent actor who didn't make it into my film is now conspiring against me. Is it that painful not to see your face in the teaser?”
The actress confirmed that her accusations were directed at Mamum and revealed, “I shot for 19 days in India for 'Dorod', and Mamun only paid me Tk16,000. Whenever I asked for the rest, he made excuses about financial crises. I didn't receive any payment for his film 'Radio', and I still haven't been fully compensated for 'Kosai', which was released a few years ago.”
She clarified that she stayed silent as she didn’t want unnecessary drama to hamper the release of “Dorod” and she has previously considered Anonno “a brother.”
She further added, "He took advantage of that trust and denied me my rightful payment. Now he's calling me an incompetent actor because I'm not in the teaser. Yes, I'm hurt. I played significant roles in his films—not minor ones that could be easily overlooked."
According to Shammi, this was not an isolated incident and has claimed other people in the industry are fully aware of his tactics but continues to brush it under the rug calling it “business.”
Apparently after her post, his assistant reached out to her, offering her wages. But Shammi has expressed that she doesn’t feel safe going to his office to collect the money.
