Update : 23 Mar 2024, 03:42 PM

On Friday, March 22 the inaugural ceremony of artist Nazir Hossain’s exhibition took place at La Galeria, Alliance Francaise Dhaka. His artworks not only emphasies the many different forms of the Royal Bengal Tiger and captures many different folk elements of Bangla mythology.

In his depictions, Nazir Hossain shows that The Royal Bengal Tiger is not only a fearsome four-legged feline but the core spirit of the people of Bangladesh. The artist shows this more gracefully through his art, through his ‘Pattachitras’, with a canopy of folk motifs, indigenous symbols and fables.

The fables in Hossain’s works show the tiger in humorous and human-like situations, one works shows the tiger cooking rice among humans, and others show the tiger playing the ektara, that surely would put a smile on people’s faces.

Hossian’s unique yet relatable artworks are wonderfully well-timed for the upcoming Bangla New Year. Capturing the spirit of Bangladeshis throughout the year through a lens of true traditions.

The exhibition is a part of the Francophonie Festival 2024 celebration, organised by France, Switzerland and Canada. It will be open to all till Tuesday April 2, visiting hours are Monday to Saturday from 3-8pm.
