Oscar-winning singer and composer AR Rahman, widely adored by music enthusiasts for his soulful rhythms, recently stirred controversy with his latest composition for the upcoming war film "Pippa".

The song, "Karar Oi Louho Kopat," holds particular significance as it is an iconic protest song originally composed and written by the revolutionary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

While war films often incorporate inspired songs, the debate arises as to whether it is fair to transform an iconic rhythm into a more somber, cold-hearted rendition.

Social media opinions are divided on this matter, with some asserting that it is not right to alter the essence of a song dedicated to the fighters of the country.

While exploring the shared opinions on social media, the prevailing sentiment seems to lean towards the negative. Upon giving the revamped composition a thorough listen, many believe that the new version is inappropriate, reflecting a level of disrespect to the original intent of Kazi Nazrul Islam, who dedicated the song to the fighters of the country.

One of the users wrote: “Why AR Rahman? Why butcher such a wonderful phenomenal song?”

While another one said: “This Nazrul Sangeet is a masterpiece itself and does not need any modification from musicians in the world.”

Additionally, some netizens said the pronunciation of the lyrics was incorrect and AR Rahman could compose the song in a rhythm where the originality of the legendary tune would not miss out.

The imminent release of the music video for AR Rahman's rendition of "Karar Oi Louho Kopat" adds an intriguing layer to the discussion.

The question that lingers is whether the song will be used to accompany a romantic scene or as a poignant anthem for warriors in the context of war.

Critics argue that transforming such a powerful song into a light, romantic melody is unexpected for an artist of AR Rahman's stature.

The original composition of the song still evokes goosebumps, laden with powerful words that inspired the youth to confront enemies and dismantle barriers for freedom.

Rahman, who produced the song himself, enlisted the talent of renowned Bengali artists such as Rahul Dutta, Tirtha Bhattacharjee, Pijush Das, Shrayee Paul, Shalini Mukherjee, and Dilasa Chowdhury for the vocals.

The song is part of the soundtrack for the film "Pippa," directed by Raja Krishna Menon, centered around the premise of Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War and featuring actors Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur.

Despite the criticism, the film was released on November 10 on Amazon Prime.
