Kamar Ahmad Simon, who recently participated at the Cannes’ Cinefondation film development initiative, La Atelier, called upon curious young filmmakers to a discussion session tiled “Biralpakhir Mojma 13.0.” Organised by BiralPakhi Cine Club, the event was held at the National Museum, Shahbag. Sara Afreen, producer of Shunte Ki Pao! , also attended the event.
At the program, Simon shared his recent experiences of participating at various programs of prominent film festivals around the world including the likes of Cannes, Berlin and Locarno. The filmmaker highlighted issues such as notable preparations which a filmmaker must keep in mind in order to raise funds for the making and the possible obstacles they are likely to encounter in the process at the session. The participants also discussed certain acclaimed films which were recently awarded at the film festivals.
Praising the six experimental short films which were shown in the Mojma, Kamar said that if young filmmakers continue to make such experimental films, it will surely add a new dimension to the Bangladeshi film industry and elevate it to newer heights. Filmmaker-organiser, Ishtiaque Zico, whose short 720 Degrees was the first Bangladeshi film presented at Venice International Film Festival in 2010, conducted the session.
Last year, Zico formed the BiralPakhi Cine Club along with local young filmmakers and has been successful in creating quite the impression among local film aficionados.
