Update : 08 Dec 2020, 07:07 PM

Jaya Ahsan won the Best Lead Actress Award in a Foreign Language Film, and Atanu Ghosh clinched the award for Best Original Screenplay of a Feature Foreign Language.

The director expressed his gratitude via video conference at the award-giving ceremony. "This is perhaps the best news I have received amid these troubling times. Thank you for this award."

Jaya Ahsan told Dhaka Tribune Showtime, "My role in this film was extremely challenging. I had to play a corporate law officer, who is writing a book on a fraudster's psychology, the fraudster being my former lover, played brilliantly by Proshenjit Chatterjee. The part was tricky, and I had to make sure to do justice to my wonderful character."

Robibaar previously won big at the Bengali category of The Critics’ Choice Film Awards 2020. Atanu Ghosh bagged both the Best Director and Best Writing awards.

"With recognition comes responsibility," Jaya reflected on her win at Madrid. "I am definitely feeling the weight of that. I have to ensure that I never let my fans and well wishers down and that I can continue to play characters that audiences find compelling."

Jaya, who was nominated alongside 18 other actors, thanked the entire team of Robibaar, and congratulated director Atanu Ghosh on Facebook.

Robibar, directed by National Award-winning film-maker Atanu Ghosh, starred popular Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan and West Bengal actor Prosenjit Chatterjee as two former lovers running into a chance meeting with each other.

The film hit the Bangladeshi theatres on February 21.
