Shakib Khan’s film project ‘Maya’ was given a government grant in the 2021–22 fiscal. But due to the persistent delays, Shakib Khan has returned Tk 65 lakh(6.5 million).
Mahbuba Farzana, secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed this and said hakib Khan has returned the grant. There were no formal complaints against him; he returned the money of his own accord.
Farzana hinted that many other producers were sent notices due to uncompleted projects. She further added that some have returned their grants already. "For those who haven't, we will take legal steps after the third reminder,” she said.
“Maya” received the first instalment of the grant and 2022. Apu Biswas’ film “Laaal Shari” also received the grant around that time. Her film was completed and released.
“Maya” is not the only example, last year Jaya Ahsan returned the grant of her film “Roid”. But "Roid" director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon continues to work on it without the grant.
