A tribute to Satyajit Ray

The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), organized by Rainbow Film Society, will honour the late Oscar-winning cinema titan Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary

Necessary preparatory work for the first ever hybrid edition (having virtual as well as physical screenings) of the Dhaka International Film Festival is already underway. 

During this 19th edition of DIFF, organizers expect to screen about 200 films, with participation from around 60 countries.

The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), organized by Rainbow Film Society, will be held in Dhaka from 16 to 24 January 2021. 

The screenings will be held at the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka, Star Cineplex, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Central Public Library Auditorium and Bangladesh National Museum Auditorium.

The general theme of the festival is Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society. 

The festival will have a competition for “Asian Cinema Section”, “Tribute”, “Retrospective”, “Bangladesh Panorama Section”, “Cinema of the World Section”, “Children Films Section”, “Women Filmmakers Section”, “Short and Independent Films Section” and “Spiritual Films Section”.

One of the very important segments of this festival is the ‘Tribute’ and the19th DIFF will be honouring the Asian Oscar-winning cinema titan Satyajit Ray. This will be on the occasion of his birth centenary. 

The organizers said, “Hundred years is something very special to all of us. We want to pay our respect and reverence on this invincible creator’s birth anniversary. As a tribute to our maestro, we plan on screening some of his incredible works.”

The following films for this important segment of 19th DIFF 2021 will screened- Aparajito (The Unvanquished) and Jalsaghar (The Music Room). 

As a part of the tribute section, the organizers are also arranging a memorial lecture. The event will be held on January 20.
