Aiming to establish itself as the showcase of promise and challenges of migration "The Global Migration Film Festival" is set to kick off at Dhaka University's RC Majumdar Arts auditorium on Monday.

For the second time in Bangladesh, Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) is hosting the day long fest in collaboration with European Union, and migration program giant International Organization for Migration (IOM).

15 films will be screened during the program at Dhaka University (DU), said a press release.

Over the years, films have been used to inform, entertain, educate, and provoke debate on migration. It is in this spirit that IOM, the UN Migration Agency, launched the Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) in 2016.

This year IOM is organizing GMFF in 100 countries across the world to show different facets of life, which can in turn help viewers to cultivate deeper empathy for migrants, and a better understanding of their realities, needs, perspectives, and capacities, the organizers claimed.

From July 9 - August 9, 2019, professional and emerging filmmakers working in all genres across the world were invited to submit original films, to be screened around the world during IOM's Global Migration Film Festival.

This year, over 600 films have been submitted for acceptance by the Festival. Prominent and award-winning filmmakers and visual artists as a jury board have selected 30 films to screen in 100 countries around the world.

Murad Hasan, state minister for the ministry of information will address the audience as chief guest at the concluding session.
