'Film for Freshers' held at TSC

Four classical and contemporary films were screened at the day-long event

Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) has organized a film festival, titled- ‘Film For Freshers,’ in an attempt to introduce the first-year university students to world cinema. 

The event took place on Sunday, June 5, at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University.

With the motto-'Better Film, Better Viewers,' DUFS organizes a number of film-related events throughout the year. 'Film For Freshers' is one of the organization's annual activities designed to introduce first-year students to a variety of local and international films and to kindle their interest in cinema. 

On behalf of the organizers, President of Dhaka University Film Society, Shiyan Shahriar Alamgir said, “We regularly organize this festival focusing on the freshers of the University. This year, we have received a very positive response from the students."



Meherunnessa Nurjahan, a first-year student from Chemistry department, said- “I really liked the line-up of films that is being screened here. The event has been very enjoyable for me.” 

Four classical and contemporary films were screened at this day-long event. The festival unfolded through the screening of the science fiction film 'Ek Je Chilo Desh' (1977) directed by Tapan Sinha followed by Iranian director Marjan Satrapi's animated film 'Persepolis' (2007), Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay' (1988). With the screening of Billy Wilder's classic American rom-com—‘The Apartment’ (1960) this year’s festival drew its conclusion.
