A tribute to Lucky Akhand

Recently, a few Bangladeshi expats who are fans of Lucky Akhand have created a song which was dedicated to the legendary musician and freedom fighter. The lyrics of the song titled, “Tomar joto gaan” is a reference to Lucky Akhand’s popular numbers including “Ei nil monihar,” “Abar elo je sondha,” “Jekhane simanto tomar,” and others. Titas Kazi wrote the tune and penned lyrics along with Sanjoy Mukherjee. Six singers including Suman Sharif, AI Razu, Molla Babu, Laboni Barua, Parash Mani, and Kazi Titas lent their voices to the song. Feedback’s Labu Rahman and Fuad Naser Babu arranged the music in collaboration. Last week, a video of the song was released on YouTube. Filmed in London, the music video featured singers and key people who worked for the project. Shibli Hasan directed the music video. In the meantime, Lucky Akhand, who is currently admitted in a hospital for treatment, saw the music video and praised it. Ershadul Haq Tingku, a volunteer for the singer, said to the press that Lucky has expressed his pleasure after watching the video. In September, 2015, the reclusive singer-composer Lucky Akhand was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, after falling ill. Within a week, he was diagnosed with cancer. Lucky Akhand has composed and sang numerous popular songs, including “Amay deko na,” “Ei nil monihar,” “Kobita porar prohor esheche,” “Jekhane shimanto tomar,” “Ma monia,” “Likhte pari na kono gan,” “Bhalobeshe chole jeo na,” “Bitrishna jibone amar,” “Ki kore bolle tumi,” “Eto dure je chole gecho,” and many more.
