Hundreds of people from across the social divide have turned up at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay last respects to legendary singer and composer Lucky Akhand who passed away on Friday after a long battle with cancer.
The body was taken there around 11am after his first namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayers) at Armanitola on Saturday morning.
He will be laid to rest with state honour at Mirpur's Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard after a second namaz-e-janaza on the Dhaka University’s Central Mosque premises after Johr prayers.
Lucky Akhand was diagnosed with grade IV lung cancer in 2015. He breathed his last at a Dhaka hospital on Friday evening at the age of 61.

He started his career with solo album "Lucky Akhand" in 1984. His long list of popular songs include "Agey Jodi Jantam," "Amay Dekona," "Mamonia," "Ei Neel Monihar" and "Hridoy Amar" among others.
Lucky, born on June 18, 1956, received music lessons from his father from a very young age and went on to perform in music programs on television and radio between 1963-1967, BSS reports.
At 14, he worked for HMV Pakistan as a music composer and two years later, he was enlisted by HMV India as a musician.
He worked at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War.
