Bangladeshi filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon’s film project Day After Tomorrow has been selected for the Atelier program. A part of Cannes’ Cinefondation film development initiative, the Atelier, will invite 15 directors whose projects have been considered “particularly promising.”
Together with their producers, they will be able to meet potential partners, a necessary step to finish their project. The Atelier provides its participants with access to international co-productions, thus accelerating the film’s completion.
Talking about his selection in the Atelier, Kamar Ahmad Simon said, “To be selected in Cannes Cinefondation’s Atelier is inspiring and intriguing. This challenges me to take my creative posture to the next level.”
“This selction will surely provide my film with an international stature,” he added.
Kamar’s Day After Tomorrow also won the Film Festival Locarno’s Open Doors Grant, as well as another grant, that of ARTE International Prize.
Day After Tomorrow is a river-set ensemble drama which marks the second part of a planned water trilogy.
Yona Rozenkier’s Decompression, Marie Grahto Sorenson’s Teenage Jesus, and Sew the Winter to My Skin, South Africa’s Jahmil XT Quebek, among others, have made it to the 15-project cut for the 2017 Cannes Festival Atelier co-production forum.
