Update : 28 Nov 2017, 09:31 PM
Bangladeshi filmmaker Abdullah Mohammed Saad’s feature film, “Live From Dhaka,” was recently picked up by Paris-based international sales agency Stray Dogs. Following a successful premiere at the 2016’s Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), the director won an award in the Best Director category, while the film’s lead cast, Mostofa Monwar, won the Best Actor title at the festival’s Silver Screen awards. The micro-budget film, produced by Khelna Chobi, in association with Goopy Bagha Productions Limited, also screened at the 2017 Rotterdam and Poland’s Five Flavours Film Festival. Produced by Shamsur Rahman Alvy, Imtiaz Bijon Ahmed, Ehsanul Haque Babu and Mohammed Arifur Rahman, the news was announced by one of them via Facebook. Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime contacted Imtiaz Bijon Ahmed, where he said: “Basically this opens the door for us in international market. Stray Dogs is a well reputed company, have worked with filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap already. So we are in good hands.” “And this is not just about this film. An opportunity like this opens many other doors. We are excited about ‘Live from Dhaka’ and the exciting future ahead of us,” he added. Bijon also thanked Film Bazaar of National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in India, where they got to meet Stray Dogs' founder Nathan Fischer. He also said how “NFDC has become a caring mother for Bangladeshi independent cinema.” “Thanks Film Bazaar for creating this opportunity for us, where we got to meet Stray Dogs' Nathan Fischer.” Stray Dogs’ eclectic sales slate includes Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s “The Brawler” that had bowed in Toronto and is currently screening at SGIFF, and British filmmaker Deborah Haywood’s “Pin Cushion” that opened at Venice Critics’ Week, among others.
