Indian film star Ranbir Kapoor has spoken out in support of his colleague Mahira Khan. Ranbir’s statement to India’s NDTV came after several photos of him and Mahira surfaced online showing them smoking together.
The Raees star Mahira Khan since faced online backlash for being seen smoking in the photos. She was also shamed by online commenters for wearing a revealing dress. Many celebrities from both India and Pakistan have since spoken publicly against the online harassment the Pakistani actress is facing. The pictures also gave rise to the rumour of the duo dating. Rishi Kapoor dismissed the rumour saying, “If they were dating or seeing each other, wouldn’t people in Mumbai know? These rumors are only dumb.”
Ranbir in his statement said, “I’ve gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful god gifted lives.” Ranbir also added a brilliant postscript saying “Both smoking and hate are injurious to health.”
Though there is no confirmation about the time and place of where these photos were taken, many have assumed that Ranbir met Mahira on the set of Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt. Ronbir has not commented on the rumor of him dating Mahira.
