Bangladesh is observing the 53rd Independence Day on Sunday, with thousands of people from all walks of life gathering at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, several political parties, and common people paid their rich tributes to the martyrs and brave freedom fighters of the Liberation War.
Each year, this occasion refreshes the resolution to uphold the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War and build a “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt of by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The photos were taken by Dhaka Tribune’s photographer Mahmud Hossain Opu.
