It is nothing short of disappointing to know that the majority of solar panels installed in rooftops throughout our capital are completely wasted when it comes to the generation of electricity.
According to a recent Dhaka Tribune report, many solar panel users in Dhaka have become dis-enchanted with their systems having faced regular issues with installation, maintenance, and con-nectivity, resulting in approximately 90% of all solar panel systems falling into a state of disrepair due to lack of use.
Solar power represents one of the easiest ways for Bangladesh to pivot towards renewable ener-gy, so why exactly are so many people finding it difficult to implement them into their residences? One of the biggest hurdles is the lack of awareness, primarily surrounding maintenance of solar power systems and the flood of low quality panels installed in existing systems. A problem that can be sidestepped if better quality solar panels were connected directly to the grid using an inverter, according to experts.
As a developing nation, it is in our best interests to get a jump start on renewable energy. Relying on fossil fuels is no longer tenable, as the global energy crisis seems to go on unabated. Introduc-ing more robust solar panel systems in every home and commercial space, then, is an idea that will need to be reinforced with the proper knowledge in their maintenance and metering.
As things stand, factors such as high initial investment and a plethora of regulatory issues already deter those who are interested in setting up solar panels -- these need to be addressed by the government.
Renewable energy is not the future anymore, it is necessary for the present.
