We commend and appreciate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina once again calling for special focus on medical science research and urging all to take the country forward with fresh inventions to cope with the new global technologies
While it is true that medical science research in Bangladesh has made significant progress in recent years, with a growing number of studies and publications emerging from the country's academic and research institutions, we have the potential to do much more to see improvements in healthcare delivery and outcomes across the country.
However, when addressing our potential, it is equally important for us to recognize the significant challenges facing medical science research in Bangladesh. Funding for research has historically been limited, and many researchers struggle to access the resources and infrastructure needed to conduct high-quality studies.
There is also a shortage of trained researchers and healthcare professionals, which can hinder the growth and impact of research initiatives. This is a failure of the system at large, and the PM has rightfully called out a section of physicians joining government services or politics after obtaining an MBBS degree, shunning practices and research.
However, to overcome these challenges, it is important to continue to invest in medical science research in Bangladesh and to support the development of local research institutions and networks. We must also build a culture of incentivizing and rewarding professionals passionate about research. This includes increasing funding for research, providing training and resources for researchers, and fostering collaboration between academic institutions, healthcare providers, and industry partners.
By investing in medical science research, Bangladesh has the potential to become a leader in healthcare innovation and to make significant contributions to global health. With continued support and investment, the country can build a robust and sustainable research ecosystem that benefits patients and communities both in Bangladesh and around the world.
