Finance Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said the government aims to bring inflation down to 7.5% in the 2026–27 fiscal year, offering what he described as a relief measure for people long affected by high price pressures.
The finance minister presented the proposed national budget for FY26-27 in Parliament on Thursday, outlining a total outlay of Tk 9,38,000 crore, one of the largest in the country’s history.
In the budget, the revenue collection target has been set at Tk 6,95,000 crore. The overall budget deficit is projected at Tk 2,43,000 crore, which the government plans to finance through both domestic and foreign borrowing.
“Initiatives will be taken to reduce the cost of living by restoring economic stability, increasing investment and generating employment,” the finance minister said in his budget speech.
The government has also set a target of 6.5% GDP growth for the next fiscal year.
Economists said that if the inflation-control target is achieved, it could improve purchasing power and help restore stability in the market for consumers.
