The government has announced a program to provide free uniforms, shoes and schoolbags to students from low-income families.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said poor students would be provided with uniforms, shoes and schoolbags under the initiative.
The move is expected to reduce education expenses for millions of low-income families and improve school retention among underprivileged children.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the proposed national budget for fiscal year 2026–27 in parliament on Thursday.
The proposed budget, the first under the current government, has an outlay of Tk938,000 crore.
