The cost of a 12kg Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder has risen by Tk79 for consumers, now priced at Tk1,363, compared to the previous rate of Tk1,284.
This increase was announced by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) during a press conference held on Monday afternoon, becoming effective from the evening of the same day.
According to the commission's announcement, the retail point price of private LPG at the consumer level has been adjusted by Tk113.61 per kg.
Additionally, the price of private LPG supplied in liquid form through the reticulated system has been adjusted by Tk109.79 per kg, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT). At the consumer level, the price of autogas has been set at Tk62.54 per litre, including VAT.
In the previous month, the price of LPG had increased to Tk107.01 per kg, with a 12kg LPG cylinder costing Tk1,284. Prior to this, in August, the cost of a 12kg LPG cylinder had surged by Tk141, reaching a total price of Tk1,140 for consumers. However, in July, the price had reduced by Tk75, dropping from Tk1,074 to Tk999. The month prior, the cost of a 12kg cylinder had decreased by Tk161, falling from Tk1,235 to Tk1,074. Earlier, in May, the price of every 12kg cylinder had increased by Tk57, rising from Tk1,178 to Tk1,235.
In April, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission had lowered the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder from Tk1,422 to Tk1,178, a reduction of Tk244. This trend continued in March when the price was decreased from Tk1,498 to Tk1,422, a reduction of Tk76. However, in February, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder had increased from Tk1,232 to Tk1,498.
The pricing of private companies' bottled LPG is determined by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission in alignment with the contract prices of propane and butane, the primary components of LPG, set by Saudi Arabia's Aramco.
Bangladesh's annual LPG consumption is about 14,28,000 tons, with households accounting for about 84% of the consumption. Around 99% of the market is dominated by 29 private companies.
