Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Sunday adjusted upward the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) saying from now on the widely used 12 kilogram LPG cylinder would be sold to consumers at Tk1,306 instead of Tk1,253.
“The newly fixed price of LPG is Tk1,306, which will be effective from Sunday at 6pm and all licensees of LPG marketing companies will implement the price,” BERC chairman Jalal Ahmed told a media announcement.
He said the prices of all the 13 different sizes of LPG-filled cylinders were readjusted for January in line with new price adjustments by Saudi Arabia-based Aramco that sets the contract price or CP for LPG at the beginning of each month for term contracts.
According to BERC records, the LPG price was Tk1,253 for 12kg cylinder in December, Tk1,215 in November, Tk1,241 in October, Tk1,284 in September, Tk1,140 in August and Tk999 in July last year.
The BERC also re-fixed auto gas price at Tk59.80 per litre, which was Tk57.32 in December.
Under the price readjustment per kilogram of LPG at reticulated stage would be Tk105.08 at private sector retailer level inclusive VAT, which was Tk100.66 and Tk233.50 per cubic metre of supplied LPG in gas system owned by private sector, which was Tk223.80 in December, 2025.
The BERC said they readjusted the LPG price as per the Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP) which was $520 and $525 per ton of the Propane and Butane.
Considering the Propane and Butane ratio 35:65 average, Saudi CP per tonne $521.75, the BERC re-fixed the price of LPG and auto gas for January 2025.
As per BERC decision, new price at private sector retailer level, 12.5kg LPG has been refixed at Tk1,360 at retailer level, 15kg at Tk1,633, 16kg at Tk1,742, 18kg at Tk1,959, 20kg at Tk2,176, 22kg at Tk2,395, 25kg at Tk2,721, 30kg at Tk3,265, 33kg at Tk3,592, 35kg at Tk3,809 and 45kg at Tk4,898.
