Dr Maliha Mannan Ahmed has become the new vice-president of the Bangladesh-India Business Council (BIBC), a bilateral chamber of the Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (WICCI) .
She is the director of Gemcon Group and founder of Organikare.
Ahmed was previously a general member of the organization.
The announcement came on Monday at an event marking the recent National Independence Day, as well as International Women's Day, which BIBC organized at India House in the capital.
During the program, three women entrepreneurs were announced as new members of BIBC, namely Nahid Mahtab, a senior Supreme Court lawyer, Mifra Zaheer, founder of Sathi Foundation, and Tasneem Sinha, director of The ACME Laboratories.
Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque was present as chief guest at the event.
Among others, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, MP and vice-chairman of Gemcon Group, Naeem Razzaq, MP, and Mantasha Ahmed, president of BIBC were also present.
Earlier in the day, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and BIBC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Prof Imran Rahman, vice-chancellor of ULAB, and Dr Rumana Dowla, vice-president of BIBC, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
As per the agreement, BIBC's member entrepreneurs will mentor ULAB's women students.
