A group of Rohingyas attacked the Kutupalong (east) Rohingya camp in-charge in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, when he went to evict illegal establishments.
During the incident on Thursday afternoon, the camp in-charge and law enforcement had to fire several blank shots and left the area, said local Rohingya people.
Seeking anonymity, a camp official said to Dhaka Tribune: "Supported by a listed gang of Rohingya criminals, around a hundred Rohingyas were working to illegally build shops in Kutupalong east block D-CIC2. When the camp in-charge, police officers, ansar and Rohingya volunteers went there on an eviction drive, a Rohingya group surrounded them and hurled brickbats.
“Law enforcement had to evacuate the area firing blank shots, and two of them were injured in the incident."
Md Khalilur Rahman Khan, camp in-charge (CIC) of Kutupalong (east camp) said around 20 to 30 Rohingyas attacked them with sticks and sharp weapons and also hurled brick-bats. "Some Rohingya volunteers were injured in the incident, and the attackers fled when ansar members fired blank shots."
Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Nikaruzzaman Choudhury said a Rohingya man was arrested in connection with the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Ikbal Hossain said police are conducting drives to arrest the attackers.
