A second ship, carrying 36,570 tons of coal for the Payra Thermal Power Plant, arrived at Payra Port in Patuakhali on Sunday, a month after the power plant had to suspend production due to a coal shortage.
The Panamanian-flagged vessel MB Pavo Brave, which departed from Indonesia's Balikpapan port, docked at Payra port early on Sunday after a week-long journey, said Payra Port Traffic Division Deputy Director Azizur Rahman.
Upon reaching the outer anchorage, the ship was piloted to the inner anchorage around 10:30am, said Golam Rabbani, a pilot at Payra port.
The coal unloading operations then commenced through lighter vessels, said Georges Talukder, executive engineer of the Payra Thermal Power Plant.
Later, the ship will be taken to the Payra Thermal Power Plant jetty and the rest of the coal will be unloaded, he said.
"At least 15 more ships carrying coal are set to arrive one after the other to tackle the fuel crisis at the power plant," added the power plant engineer.
The 1,320MW Payra thermal power plant had to temporarily shut down on June 5 due to a shortage of coal.
On June 22, another vessel, the MV Athena, arrived at the port carrying 41,207 tons of coal.
The power plant resumed production on June 25.
