The nationwide load-shedding has reduced as the heat wave fall down because of rain and public demand of electricity decreased, Power Development Board (PDB) said.
PDB Chairman Khaled Mahmood told it to the Dhaka Tribune on Sunday. He also said PDB has produced record number of electricity which is better than previous.
“A total of 9,472MW electricity was produced on Saturday night and we think we can produce 10,000MW if required,” he said.
The PDB chairman said some problems in transmission and distribution lines may cause load-shedding in some areas but it has nothing to do with power generation.
Terming the recent load-shedding a nightmare, he said: “We could not even imagine such massive nationwide heat wave and technical glitch in power plants at the same time.”
According to the chairman, all the power plants across the country have gone through maintenance and are ready to generate power now. He also hoped that PDB will be able to meet the increasing demand of power during Ramadan.
However, the consumers complained different areas of the county are still witnessing load-shedding for several hours a day.
The difference is made mainly because of the difference between demand and the supply. If there is around 9,500MW production, consumers receive some little over 8,500MW because of 9% auxiliary use of power for the stations, loss in transmission and distribution process.
According to PDB’s calculation, there was demand for around 10,000MW after rain, and if that is taken into concern, there was 1,500MW of gap between demand and supply. People mostly in rural areas are suffering from load shedding for the gap. Although Dhaka and other divisional cities are getting required number of power, but the district level consumers are not receiving enough power.
The power demand for of rural areas is around 25% of the total power generation.
If the amount of rainfall rises significantly and the temperature fall down, the situation will be normal, said PDB officials.
