Sarjis Alam, chief organizer (northern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said that the dreams they had envisioned for the country on August 5 remain unfulfilled.
Their hopes and aspirations have yet to be realized, he said during a rally at the Shaheb Bazar Zero Point in Rajshahi city on Sunday evening, concluding the Rajshahi leg of the party’s ongoing “July March.” Central leaders of the party were also present at the event.
Sarjis said: “A new July has come after July 2024, but our aspirations have not been fulfilled. We still carry regret in our hearts. The dreams we saw for this country on August 5 have not yet materialized.”
“But can we betray the trust of the martyrs who laid down their lives, of our comrades who shed their blood? As long as those dreams remain unfulfilled, our July will continue. Our struggle will continue. That is why we are going to all 64 districts."
He continued: “We have seen what happened under the Awami League. You could speak about everyone, but not about Sheikh Hasina. She was placed above even the angels—so much so that from angel, she turned into a Pharaoh, and from Pharaoh into a full-fledged autocrat.”
“In the Bangladesh of the future, no matter how big the party or how powerful the leader, no one will be above question,” Sarjis added.
Addressing the police and civil administration, he warned: “To all in Bangladesh’s administration—police, DCs, SPs, UNOs, and OCs—we have one clear message—if you serve your post with integrity, that is commendable. But if you become tools of a political party, remember what happened to those under the Awami League.
“You will face the same consequences. There will be no space left in this country for sycophants.”
Sarjis said: “The northern region has long suffered discrimination. In future, regardless of which party comes to power—even if it is the NCP—we will not accept any form of inequality.”
He added: “A criminal remains a criminal—whether extortionist or land grabber. A syndicate leader is nothing but a bloodsucker. We must unite to fight them. If we let them go unchecked, more despots like Hasina will emerge. We will not allow another autocrat to rise in the Bangladesh of tomorrow.”
