A young man named Ashikur Rahman, 28, was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend over an unpaid loan of Tk 450 in Rajshahi on Monday morning.
The incident took place in Jotrabon area under Damkura Police Station in Rajshahi. The accused, Faisal Ali Joy, 26, was later arrested by police from Alupatti area of Rajshahi city. Police also recovered the knife believed to have been used in the killing.
The deceased, Ashikur Rahman, was the son of Akram Ali of Jotrabon village.
According to Damkura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Islam, Ashikur borrowed Tk 450 from Faisal on May 21. Around 10:00 am yesterday, Faisal went to Ashikur’s house to demand repayment, leading to an argument between the two.
Following the altercation, Faisal allegedly stabbed Ashikur in the left side of his rib cage before fleeing the scene. Locals rushed Ashikur to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
OC Ashraful Islam said a murder case has been filed with the police station. The accused will be produced before the court, he said, adding that after the autopsy, the victim’s body will be handed over to his family.
