Addressing the interim government, Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman said that the billions of taka looted during the previous government's tenure should be recovered and given as salaries to the current non-MPO teachers.
He made these comments on Monday while attending the continuous sit-in program of the United Non-MPO Unity Council in front of the National Press Club, showing solidarity with their demands.
Mujibur Rahman said: "The non-MPO teachers have been sitting on the streets for nine days. From a humanitarian perspective, it is against national interest and dignity for teachers to remain on the streets like this.”
He added: “If Bangladesh wants to maintain its dignity on the world stage and establish respect for its education system, then the government must immediately come forward, meet the demands of the non-MPO teachers, and bring this movement to an end.”
“To uphold Bangladesh's existence and its honour, the demands of the non-MPO teachers must be accepted," he further added.
Proposing to the government, he said: "The billions of taka looted during the previous government's tenure should be recovered and provided as salaries to these teachers. Those teachers who are sitting in the protest should be given the opportunity to meet with the chief adviser.”
He also said: “Through discussions, the demands of the non-MPO teachers should be accepted. The sooner this issue is resolved, the sooner the nation will regain a better education system. Therefore, I request the authorities to meet the teachers' demands as quickly as possible without further delay."
Notably, since February 23, teachers from the United Non-MPO Unity Council have been holding a continuous sit-in program in front of the National Press Club, demanding MPO status.
