The Narayanganj district BNP committee has been dissolved, according to a press release signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi issued on Tuesday.
The press release stated that the committee was disbanded based on recommendations from an investigation committee formed regarding the Narayanganj district BNP.
A new committee for Narayanganj District BNP will be announced soon.
According to party sources, following the sudden change in leadership on August 5, allegations of extortion, land grabbing and sheltering criminals in exchange for money were raised against various leaders and activists in the district.
In response, the BNP formed an investigation committee, whose recommendations led to the disbandment of the Narayanganj district BNP Committee.
Earlier, on June 18 last year, former member of parliament Md Gias Uddin was elected president and Golam Faruk Khokon was elected general secretary during the Narayanganj district BNP conference.
On November 25, 2009, at the Ali Ahmed Chunka Municipal Auditorium, Taimur Alam Khandakar was elected president and Kazi Moniruzzaman was elected general secretary of the district BNP at its conference.
However, they failed to form a complete committee even after seven years.
On February 13, 2017, a new committee was announced with Kazi Moniruzzaman as president and former District Jubo Dal president Professor Mamun Mahmud as general secretary.
Three and a half years later, on December 31, 2020, that committee was disbanded and a 41-member convening committee was formed with Advocate Taimur Alam Khandakar as convener and Professor Mamun Mahmud as member secretary.
In January 2022, following the Narayanganj City Corporation elections, Taimur Alam Khandakar was removed from the position of convener for running in the mayoral election against party decisions. Monirul Islam Robi was appointed acting convener.
On November 15, 2022, the convening committee led by Monirul Islam and Mamun Mahmud was disbanded and a new nine-member convening committee was announced by the central BNP, with former Narayanganj-4 MP Muhammad Gias Uddin as convener and District Jubo Dal Convener Golam Faruk Khokon as member secretary.
