BNP Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan has called on the interim government to expedite its activities and immediately announce an election roadmap, ensuring it does not exceed nine months to a year.
He expressed his concerns about public frustration and warned of potential failure if timely actions are not taken.
“We do not want the interim government to fail. The roadmap should reflect the people's expectations. A free, fair, and peaceful election must pave the way for a democratic government,” he said while addressing the biannual conference of the Tangail District Nationalist Freedom Fighters' Party on Saturday.
Highlighting the need for reforms, he said: "Our renewed journey since August 5 emphasizes the necessity of fundamental reforms to build a democratic Bangladesh. A fair election is crucial for democratic progress, a demand for which the people of Bangladesh have struggled for the past 15 years."
Referring to the harassment of Advisor Asif Nazrul during a recent visit abroad, Khan said: "Such incidents must not recur. The interim government should promptly announce the election roadmap and ensure the transfer of power to a democratic government, departing with dignity.”
The conference, held at the Tangail District Advocates' Association auditorium, was inaugurated by Bir Muktijoddha Istiak Aziz Ulfat, President of the Central Nationalist Freedom Fighters' Party.
The event was chaired by Tangail District Nationalist Freedom Fighters' Party Convener Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Khalek Mondol. Sadeq Ahmed Khan, General Secretary of the Nationalist Freedom Fighters' Party, was the keynote speaker.
Other speakers included the party’s Central Senior Vice President Engineer Abdul Halim Mia, District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, and General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal.
