Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, has said that the fascist AL-led government frequently spoke of their so-called progress, but never mentioned that as the number of buildings in the country increased, so too did the number of homeless people sleeping on the streets and sidewalks.
The Awami League looted the country for the past 15 years and smuggled abroad crores of taka by a select group, he said while speaking as the chief guest at a mass dialogue at Ashwini Kumar Hall in Barishal city on Thursday night.
In the future, this smuggling must stop, and the stolen funds must be brought back, Saki added.
The program was presided over by the district coordinator of the party, Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, and conducted by district executive coordinator Arifur Rahman Miraj Abul Hasan Rubel. Executive Coordinator and Central Member SM Amjad Hossain was a special guest.
During the dialogue, Saki said the disparity in wealth among the masses occurred because, according to Article 70 of the Constitution, whoever held power controlled all authority.
For this reason, Article 70 of the Constitution should be abolished.
Also a top leader of the Ganatantra Mancha, Zonayed Saki emphasized that the powers of the President and the Prime Minister should be balanced to ensure accountability.
Parliament should be bicameral, with a balance of power between the two houses. The judiciary should be independent and completely separate from the executive branch, he said.
The media must be made independent, with safeguards in place to prevent any future government from monitoring it, Saki added.
He also remarked that the price of goods had skyrocketed, with no vegetables available for less than Tk100.
The interim government is unable to reduce prices due to past syndicates.
"The people are not speaking out because public opinion is still hopeful and with you. Do not yield to the looters," Saki noted.
He also called for increased budget allocations for education and health, ensuring housing for all citizens, and granting full status to all teachers, including primary school teachers.
