A Dhaka court on Monday placed dismissed Lt Col Md Afzal Naser, a former director of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), on a fresh three-day remand in a case filed over the attempted murder of Jagannath University (JnU) student Anik Kumar Das during the July Mass Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order after police produced Naser before the court and sought a five-day remand in the case.
Earlier on May 5, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Zunayed placed him on a three-day remand in the case.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Afzal Naser from his residence in Mirpur DOHS on March 30.
According to the case documents, activists of the Awami League, Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly shot Anik in front of the main gate of the university on July 16, 2024.
He was first taken to National Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
The victim later filed the case against 253 people on November 21, 2024.
