A local Awami League leader of Comilla died while attending a peace rally against countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal called by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday.
The deceased is Billal Hossain, president of 4 no ward Awami League of the city.
Local councilor Nasir Uddin Nazim, also general secretary of the ward, confirmed the death.
According to party sources, Awami League organized a peace rally in Comilla to counter the nationwide hartal.
Billal Hossain came to Kandirpar with a procession from Kaptan Bazar area in the morning.
After a few moments, he collapsed on the ground due to chest pain and died when he was being taken to a hospital.
Lawmaker AKM Bahauddin of Comilla-6 constituency expressed his condolences over the death.
