He added that the student protests for safe roads is a result of pervading unrest in the country

The government is strategically planning to send BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to her death, fearing her presence as a leader, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir has said.

"Khaleda Zia is very ill," he said at a press briefing held after a hunger strike was observed— demanding Khaleda's release—on Wednesday afternoon. "The government is planning to slowly kill her by not providing her with the proper medical treatment."

The whole nation is currently undergoing an identity crisis, the BNP secretary general said. "The government cannot just keep on oppressing the people by wielding state powers."

Fakhrul claimed the current student protests for safe roads—that ignited after a university student was run over a by a bus in Dhaka's Pragati Sharani Road on Tuesday—is a result of the unrest prevailing in the country.

"The government has failed to ensure security for the general public," he said.
