A total 35 political parties have formed a new alliance, called Juktofront, with the aim of supporting the ruling Awami League in the upcoming national polls.
The new alliance has no relation to the existing Juktofront, which is comprised of the AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Dr Kamal’s Gono Forum, ASM Abdur Rob-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), and Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Nagorik Oikya. The latter three parties recently joined the BNP to form Jatiya Oikya Front.
Representatives of the new Juktofront announced its formation and published its list of candidates for the December general election during a press conference at the National Press Club on Friday.
Bangladesh Gonotantrik Party Chairman AKM Junaid and Krishok Sramik Party President Lion Salam Mahmud were among those present at the press conference. Lion was declared as chairman of the new coalition, while Junaid the general secretary.
Addressing the press conference, Lion Salam Mahmud said: “Next week we will send a letter to the general secretary of the Awami league, asking to be included in the AL-led alliance. We will work to help the Sheikh Hasina-led government protect the country from conspirators and continue its unprecedented development.”
He added that the initial list of candidates from the alliance had over a hundred names. “We will, in the future, publish the names of more of our candidates, to let the people know about our political motives.”
AKM Junaid said:“We want to work for the development of Bangladesh, and hope that the Awami League will accept us in their alliance.”
