Juba League leader shot dead in Khulna

The deceased is Jony Mollah, 32, son of Yusuf Mollah of Dhakuria village. “Jony was shot by unidentified miscreants in a club near Bezerdhanga Railway Station yesterday evening and later died at hospital,” Khulna district’s former Awami League president Kamruzzaman Kamal confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune. “Jony was vice-president of Phultola No4 union Juba League,” he added. Upazila Juba League leaders, however, categorically rejected the claim that Jony was a Juba League man. On the other hand, Phultola police OC Asaduzzaman Munshi said Jony, a listed criminal, was accused in eight cases including robbery. He was also the second-in-command of Purba Banglar Communist Party’s Salam Bahini. Jony was declared dead by doctors at Khulna Medical College Hospital when police rushed him to there after the shooting incident. “The body has been kept at the hospital morgue,” the OC added.
