Khulna division recorded 13 dengue deaths in the first 10 days of October, as the outbreak continues to put pressure on the hospitals across the region.
According to a report signed by Khulna Divisional Health Director Dr Sheikh Md Mosharraf Hossain, a total of 228 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the division in the last 24 hours, while one person died of the mosquito-borne disease during the period.
As of October 10, the division had recorded 15,989 hospital admissions, 14,308 discharges, 392 referrals for advanced treatment, and 61 deaths.
Khulna district recorded the highest number of admissions, with 6,165 patients and 24 deaths. Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) admitted 3,115 patients and reported 28 deaths, including 23 from Khulna district.
Bagerhat recorded 2,143 admissions and three deaths, while Jessore reported 1,584 admissions and two deaths. Chuadanga recorded 137 admissions and one death, and Jhenaidah reported 421 admissions and two deaths.
The other districts reported 575 admissions in Narail, 350 in Magura, 389 in Kushtia and 305 in Meherpur. Satkhira district recorded 472 admissions, while Satkhira Medical College Hospital reported 333.
Over the past 24 hours, Khulna district recorded 93 new admissions, while 58 patients were admitted to KMCH. The figures for other areas were 29 in Jessore, 20 in Bagerhat, seven in Meherpur, six in Kushtia, five each in Satkhira district and Satkhira Medical College Hospital, four in Chuadanga and one in Narail. No new admissions were reported in Jhenaidah or Magura.
Meanwhile, the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has cancelled leave for all its officials and employees as it steps up efforts to control dengue transmission in the city.
KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju said the corporation was conducting regular cleaning operations in drains, canals, ponds, and overgrown areas while urging residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean.
He made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists and local residents during an inspection of mosquito-control and cleaning activities in South Tutpara Saturday morning.
