Parliamentary body for dredging rivers as per Delta Plan

The recommendation was made at the 6th meeting of the committee

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources Ministry has recommended sustaining river flows across the country by dredging all rivers as per the Delta Plan.

The recommendation was made at the 6th meeting of the committee, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka, on Thursday.

The meeting also recommended continuing dredging activities and taking preparations in advance in the areas having high risk of river erosion to face floods in the next year.

Committee Chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen presided over the meeting, while State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, Deputy Minister AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem and other members Md Afzal Hossain, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury and Md Faridul Haque Khan attended the meeting.

In the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the Arial Kha river bank protection and dredging project under Faridpur district and the project for mitigation of water logging in the rivers in Monirampur and Keshabpur upazilas of Jessore district and canals in the neighboring areas.

Additional Secretary of water resources ministry and officials concerned were present in the meeting.
