Police on Saturday arrested a man for raping a fifth-grade student from Sharifpur union, Noakhali
The arrestee has been identified as Alamgir Hossain Forazi, 45. He previously served as the Jamaat-e-Islami secretary of Ward 4 of Sharifpur union in the district.
Begumganj Model police station Officer-in-Charge Shamsuzzaman confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon.
According to the complaint, the rape survivor went to a medicine shop on the evening of September 13 after developing a headache. Alamgir, who runs the shop, also allegedly practises traditional healing.
In the complaint, the child’s father said Alamgir took the child to a room behind the shop, claiming the headache could be cured through a ritual. The child was raped there and threatened with death if he disclosed the incident.
Later, when the child complained of pain, family members questioned him. At one point, he told them the details of the incident.
Sharifpur union Jamaat secretary Mozammel Hossain said: “Alamgir served in Jamaat’s Ward 4 until 2022. He is currently inactive and is not involved in any party activities.”
Begumganj Model police station Officer-in-Charge Shamsuzzaman said the child’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 on Saturday night. Alamgir was arrested that night in connection with the case and was sent to a judicial court on Sunday afternoon.
