Mohammad Rafiqul Islam joined United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) as deputy managing director (DMD) and chief operating officer (COO), effective November 1, 2026.
With nearly 29 years of experience in the banking and financial services sector, he brings extensive expertise in banking operations, business management, risk management, overseas remittances, and financial services.
Prior to joining UCB, he served as managing director of United Finance PLC, and deputy managing director and chief operating officer of Standard Bank PLC.
He also held senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank as director and Citibank NA as resident vice president.
Earlier, he served as deputy managing director of BD Finance.
Mohammad Rafiqul Islam began his banking career in 1997 as probationary officer at Dhaka Bank Limited.
Over the years, he has held various leadership positions at leading local and international financial institutions, gaining extensive experience in banking operations, and financial management.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, and is a Certified Credit Professional from Omega, UK.
With his extensive leadership experience and expertise in banking operations, risk management and financial services, he is expected to contribute to UCB’s operational efficiency and continued growth.
