A dismissed Ansar member was hacked to death in Basail upazila of Tangail on Tuesday night. Police have arrested two people in connection with the killing.
The deceased was identified as Hanif Khan, 37, son of late Boktar Ali Khan of Habla Uttar Para village in Habla union.
According to police and local residents, miscreants attacked Hanif with sharp weapons while he was returning home from Bilpara Bazar. They hacked him in different parts of his body before fleeing the scene.
Locals later found him and rushed him to Tangail Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
ASI Atiqur Rahman, in-charge of the police box at the hospital, said Hanif was brought to the hospital with critical injuries. His body has been kept at the morgue.
Basail police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Alamgir Kabir said Hanif sustained injuries to his hands, legs and head after being hacked with sharp weapons.
Hanif’s wife, Monira Sultana, filed a case over the incident, following which police arrested two people named in the case.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before a Tangail court on Wednesday.
