Jahangirnagar University authorities have formed a three-member investigation committee and issued show-cause notice to four students over the display of a black-white flag at National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
According to hall officials, the incident took place on June 27 when a flag described as a “Taliban flag” was seen hanging from the balcony of Room 302 on the hall’s third floor. The issue later spread on social media, drawing mixed reactions among students and prompting administrative attention.
The students who received the notices are residents of Room 302 and belong to different departments and academic batches. However, one first-year student reportedly had not yet moved into the room. The notice states that all room residents bear responsibility for the incident and have been asked to submit written explanations by July 5.
The students said the flag was hung by a roommate out of religious sentiment and was later removed immediately after its photo was posted online. Hall Provost Prof Abdur Razzak said the administration formed the committee to investigate the matter due to its sensitivity and wider public discussion regarding such flags.
