A two-day film and cultural event centred on Mezbaur Rahman Sumon’s “Roid” will take place at Jahangirnagar University on October 2 and 3, featuring screenings of Bangladesh’s entry in the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
Titled “Roider Andhar”, the event will be organized by Bangla Theatre and Bastobayon Kabyik School of Arts at the university’s Zahir Raihan Auditorium, according to the organizers.
“Roid”is Sumon’s second feature film after “Hawa”, with Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in the lead roles.
Four screenings will be held across the 2 days, with shows scheduled from 3pm to 6pm and 6:30pm to 9:30pm each day.
Each screening will be preceded by a puppet theatre performance by Kakatarua Puppet Theatre. The program will also include a seminar on the film, along with post-screening sessions featuring director Mezbaur Rahman Sumon and actor Nazifa Tushi.
A folk-art exhibition will be held across the auditorium premises, which will be decorated to evoke a traditional rural setting with tall trees and leaves, a traditional bioscope, paintings on white handloom sarees, patachitra and rickshaw paintings.
According to the organizers, the event is being run entirely through student initiatives. Members of film and theatre organizations from universities across the country have also been invited to attend.
