State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit on Friday said the government is prioritizing renewable energy to diversify Bangladesh’s energy sector and ensure long-term energy security.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a 10-day BSCIC Entrepreneurs Fair at Jessore Town Hall ground on Friday afternoon, the minister said the country experienced energy instability after the current government assumed office due to global circumstances. To address the challenge, he said, Bangladesh must diversify its energy sources, with renewable energy playing a key role.
He noted that the current national budget has introduced duty-free facilities for the installation of solar panels. According to the minister, rooftop solar projects should not be limited to government buildings, as private sector investors and entrepreneurs can also contribute significantly to expanding renewable energy capacity.
Amit urged entrepreneurs in the Jessore BSCIC industrial area to take advantage of the opportunities in the renewable energy sector, assuring them of the government’s policy support.
Describing entrepreneurs as the driving force of the economy, he said the government has undertaken various initiatives to encourage small-scale entrepreneurship, create employment opportunities and accelerate economic growth. He expressed optimism that close cooperation between the public and private sectors would significantly transform Bangladesh over the next five years.
The minister also criticized the lack of entrepreneur-friendly services in the Jessore BSCIC industrial estate, citing inadequate drainage, poor road conditions, insufficient lighting, security concerns for female workers and recurring fire incidents. He said a fire service sub-station would be established in the industrial area to improve fire safety and support local businesses.
The event was attended by District Administrator Mohammad Ashek Hasan, Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, business leaders and local entrepreneurs.
Organizers said the fair features 60 stalls showcasing products from small local enterprises and will continue until June 28.
