The government will reduce fuel prices whenever global market conditions permit, with the latest reduction in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder prices made in response to easing international fuel prices, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said.
He made the comments on Friday afternoon while speaking to journalists after an exchange of views with officials of the Jessore District Palli Bidyut Samity and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) at the Jessore Circuit House.
Anindya Islam Amit said: “About 98% of LPG is imported and the sector is entirely dependent on the private sector. Fuel prices increased due to the Middle East crisis, making it difficult for our mothers and sisters to manage their households. Whenever the global situation changes, we adjust the prices accordingly. Hopefully, a significant price adjustment has taken place overnight. This will bring relief to the people of Bangladesh in managing their households. Whenever the opportunity arises, fuel prices will be reduced gradually to provide further relief.”
Responding to questions about high electricity bills and load-shedding, the state minister said the Power Division was working to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer.
He said: “Various complaints have been raised regarding electricity bills in several places. We have established complaint centers at every electricity office and instructed officials to resolve issues through those centers. BNP is the people's government. Officials of the Power Division have been instructed to be more sincere in ensuring services for the people.”
Among those present were Jessore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashiq Hasan, Jessore District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon, Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, Jessore District BNP President Saberul Haque Sabu, and Power Division officials.
