Former Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan, who was withdrawn two months ago for blocking the road for the public, has been suspended from government service.

The order was issued in a notification issued by the police-1 branch of the home ministry on Monday.

The notification was signed by Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Gani.

The notification said: "Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner (currently attached to the Police Headquarters) Md Nazmul Karim Khan must be restrained from government service in the public interest. Therefore, he has been suspended from government service as per the provisions of the Government Service Act."

It further mentioned that during the suspension, he will remain attached to the home ministry and will receive food allowance as per the rules.

Two months ago, Nazmul Karim Khan was removed from his post after he allegedly blocked the public's way and travelled from Dhaka to Gazipur. The incident sparked widespread criticism on social media, where it was seen that people had to wait for hours during his journey.

Following intense public discontent over this, he was removed from the post of Gazipur metropolitan police commissioner and attached to the police headquarters.
