A moderate earthquake jolted during the early hours today in Sylhet and adjacent areas in the early hours on Wednesday, causing panic among residents.
According to the Sylhet Meteorological Department, the earthquake, measuring 5.3 on Richter scale, had its epicenter in Morigaon, Assam, India.
The tremor occurred at 2:55am, with epicenter located 346km North-East from BMD Seismic Centre Agargaon, Dhaka.
As the depth of the earthquake epicenter was only 16km, so the intensity of the earthquake was very much strong comparing other same magnitude earthquakes.
However, no damages or causalities were reported.
