A fire broke out in the middle of the road in front of Biplob Udyan near 2 No Gate in Sholoshahar, Chittagong city.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 7:30pm on Saturday.
Officials from Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) have said that the fire originated from a leakage in the adjacent gas pipeline.
Due to the fire, vehicular movement on the road leading to the 2 No Gate in Sholoshahar has been suspended.
Two fire service units are working to bring the blaze under control, while police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies are ensuring security in the area.
As of 9:30pm, the fire was still burning, though its intensity was gradually decreasing.
Mohammad Rafique Khan, deputy general manager (Distribution) of KGDCL, told reporters: "A gas pipeline leakage has occurred on the road in front of Biplob Udyan. This caused the fire, which spread through the pipes onto the road. Upon receiving the news, we rushed to the scene and disconnected the gas supply. Repairs will begin once the fire is completely extinguished."
