Gas cylinder explosion in Ashulia injures 11

A gas cylinder explosion in Ashulia, Savar, Dhaka, has left 11 people, including women and children, injured. The injured were initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to the National Burn Unit in the capital for advanced treatment.

The incident occurred at around 11pm on Friday night at the house of Amjad Bepari in the Gomail area of Ashulia.

The injured are: Mosammat Surjo Banu (55), Mosammat Zahura Begum (70), Md. Monir Hossain (43), Sohel (38), Suman Mia (30), Shiuli Akhter (25), Sharmin (25), Samin Mahmud (15), Mahadi (07), Soyaed (04), and Mosammat Suraha (03).

According to locals, Suman lived on the second floor of a two-story house with his two children. That night, his mother and his brother Sohel’s family came to visit. During cooking, the gas cylinder exploded, causing a fire. As a result, 11 members of the family, including children and women, suffered burns. They were first taken to a local Women and Children’s Hospital, where they received initial treatment before being sent to the Burn Unit in Dhaka for further medical care.

While receiving treatment at Ashulia Women and Children’s Hospital, burn victim Sohel Rana told journalists, "We had gone to my brother Suman’s house to celebrate Shab-e-Barat with our family. While making traditional pitha, the cylinder suddenly exploded, setting the house on fire. Our entire family suffered burns in the incident."

Mesbah, a customer care officer at Ashulia Women and Children’s Hospital, said, "At around 10:30pm, 11 burn victims, including women and children, were brought to the hospital. After receiving initial treatment, they were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further care."
